Cooking with bacon grease? How could you go wrong. π This reminds me of recipes I had as a kid, but with hot bacon grease and spinach. Will have to give this one a go!
This recipe is from the vintage cook book Christ Church Cook Book Savannah, Georgia published in 1972.
Shred cabbage (2 pounds). Cut 6 strips of bacon into pieces and fry crisp. Remove from grease. Add 1/4 pound brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon celery seed, 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 cup vinegar in grease. When mixture is very hot add cabbage, turning it over until well mixed and cooked. Add the bacon bits.
